How you can appear
Your name. Use a name you wish to have publicly associated with your work or collective participation.
A pseudonym. Choose a pen name. We can attribute your work and, where appropriate, your participation to this name without identifying you publicly.
Anonymous. Submit a piece or an expression of interest without a public byline. We do not require a reason for anonymity.
Writing and editorial scrutiny
All submissions are considered according to their evidence, reasoning and relationship to our editorial vision. Anonymity does not exempt work from fact-checking or our AI policy. We may request clarification or corroboration, especially for allegations involving identifiable people. In such cases we will discuss options rather than automatically demand publication of an identity.
Joining the running collective
Anonymous expressions of interest are welcome. Members may use a pseudonym publicly, and participation is not conditioned on academic status. However, ongoing access to publishing systems requires a reliable way to communicate and clearly agreed responsibilities. We will work out suitable arrangements privately, with safeguards for everyone involved; sending a form does not itself grant administrative access.
Important privacy limits
A pen name protects your public attribution, not necessarily your identity from the website host, any private contact channel you use, or someone with access to your device. Word documents may disclose author details through document properties, comments, tracked changes or filenames; check the manuscript guide before sharing a file. This site is not a secure whistleblowing service and does not promise technical anonymity. Written submissions, membership expressions, and Word manuscripts can be sent through private storage. Word files are not stripped of personal metadata or scanned for malicious content. A submission sends its details to the private D1 inbox; Word manuscripts go to private R2 storage. A sent submission is not published automatically. If you have significant personal or legal safety concerns, do not include identifying details or sensitive allegations in an unprotected communication.
No explanation required
Privacy may matter because of work, family, safety, political conditions, or simple preference. OUTLET treats those reasons as yours to keep.
