People and principlesPEOPLE / 03
A collective, not a hierarchy.
We are beginning in Rena, Norway, with a small group of people committed to a more democratic form of intellectual production. The collective will grow and change through participation.
How we organize
Participation is not a position of power.
Our members do not hold permanent editorial rank. The work of reading, discussing, coordinating, maintaining the publication and supporting contributors is shared according to people's availability and willingness to take responsibility.
Responsibilities can rotate or be handed on. Someone may contribute intensely for a period, step away, and return later without needing to defend that decision. No one gains permanent authority simply by having begun the project or by holding academic credentials.

A living structure
The responsibility moves.
The conversation continues.
01Shared decisions
Decisions affecting publication and participation should be discussed openly by the people doing the work.
02Rotating responsibilities
Reading submissions, coordinating articles and maintaining the website can be assigned temporarily, shared and handed over.
03Room to step back
No permanent office or expected lifetime commitment. People are free to change how they take part.
04Room to join
New participants may help shape the publication and take on responsibilities as the collective develops.

The door should stay open.
